Summary of “The Green Mile”

The Green Mile is movie based in the 1930’s about a group of guards working on the death row cells known as “The Green Mile”. While they are working on the mile they have an unusual inmate join their cell block. He is a massive man named John Coffey and he is convicted of the murder of two little girls. John was a big enough man that he could ave killed nearly anyone he wanted, but he did not have the demeanor too. He was simple man, uneducated, and almost child like. As time goes on they head guard, Paul Edgecomb learns that John has a supernatural gift. John has the ability to heal the sick and even bring things back to life. John helps heal Paul of a bladder infection, when Paul realizes John’s gift he uses help a coworkers sick wife. He and the other guards sneak John out of the cell and to the house of the sick woman, where John heals her and shows the other guards his gift. When returned to his cell he grabs guard Percy and passes the disease into him. When asked why he tells them that Percy isn’t a good person. John eventually takes Paul’s hand and shows him what he sees and shows Paul the day he was convicted and proves that he was trying to save the girls, not kill them. When it becomes tie to execute John, Paul asked him if he wanted to let him go, but John tells him there is already enough bad in the world. When they execute John, Paul shakes his hand as a goodbye. When John showed Paul his gift his powers where transferred to him and now Paul believes he will out live all his relatives as a punishment form God for letting John be executed.
