Current MCM Major MRG Issues

DEXTROUS – Bahrain – 2 weeks from start of SRA (02SEP15) – STBD MRG Cat 3 CASREP

During CHENG turnover, FDRMC det Bahrain MRG FTA inspected both MRGs and ordered a DYKEM test to be conducted. DYKEM test showed unsat tooth contact on STBD MRG. MRG Pinion misalignment believed to be caused by Light Load Propulsion Motor (LLPM) drivetrain misalignment. FDRMC conducting bearing replacement and disconnection of LLPM to verify fix during underway demonstration prior to start of SRA.

PIONEER – Sasebo – E-MAV since Aug 2014 – Port MRG Cat 4, and STBD MRG Cat 3 CASREPs

During post heavy lift activation dock trials metallic debris found in strainers during SICLOS. Subsequent bearing open and inspect identified 5 bearings in port MRG and 9 bearings in STBD MRG needed replaced. STBD MRG also had damage to STBD MRG bull gear thrust face, which required in place machining, and damaged journals on the inboard Idler and pinion shafts which required re-plating. Idler and pinion have been shipped to OEM. ETR: 12 Feb 2016

WARRIOR – Sasebo – E-MAV – Port MRG Cat 3 CASREP

While underway for 2JA exercise, S/F discovered warped shim pack on 2B MPDE, and subsequent unsat SICLOS on Port MRG. Ship transited home on locked shaft. ISEA has been onboard since 10AUG15 conducting inspections. At least 4 bearings require replacement (2x outboard pinion, 2x bull gear). Inspections will continue through this week, and the SRF repair plan will be developed once the final inspection results are provided. ETR: TBD

ARDENT – San Diego – SRA

Significant damage to Port and Stbd MRG bull gear thrust faces, thrust bearings, and journals. ARDENT received LO conversion, new MRG Dehumidifier, and new LO Polisher during this SRA, in addition to in-place machining of STBD MRG bull gear thrust face to correct uneven surface wear caused by misaligned bull gear. Critique in progress. SRA extended to April 2016 to provide sufficient period of performance for KTR...
