Synergetic Solutions Inc. is a company that, up until recently, was mainly focused on system integration which is the business of assembling and reselling leading computer brands. Due to a stagnating system integration market the CEO of Synergetic Solutions, Harold Redd, took the first steps of entering the network solutions business of design and implementation of complex networks. As a result, Synergetic has an order worth $1.2 million which amounts to 20% of the company’s total revenue. Buoyed by this initial order and with a potential $5 million in orders in the pipeline, Harold Redd has decided that the company should move away from system integration to focus on network solutions. He would like network solutions to account for 80% of the company’s sales which are expected to be $12 million over the next three quarters. In order to accomplish these goals Synergetic Solutions will have to undergo major organizational change.

The changes necessary to successfully transform Synergetic Solutions into a predominantly network solutions company were brought about by many forces, both internal and external. Among these are technology and competition. Technology is constantly advancing in today’s world and unless companies can adapt to that advancement they run the risk of becoming obsolete. Synergetic had to make the move into the network solutions segment of the computer industry in order to ensure future growth and survival. The change is also necessary in order to compete in an increasingly global economy. If the company does not have the ability to adapt it may be unable to fend off its competitors resulting in potential lost revenue. With two major economic shocks having taken place in the past decade and no guarantee of economic stability on the horizon the move to network solutions will be essential to the growth of the company.
