1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow?

Jack and Jenny are co-owners of Sandwich Blitz, Inc. Currently, Jack is spending most of his time assisting location managers and not enough time focusing on the business as a whole. Creating the position of CEO and appointing Jack to that position would force him into a steadier, authoritative role for the company. As CEO and co-owner, Jack can make all of the major decisions for the company and delegate more responsibilities to other management people.

2. Is promoting an existing manager the best place to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position?

I believe there are a few options that are available when looking for a CEO of Sandwich Blitz. Jack would be a good choice because he is one of the owners. Jack knows the company vision and has a great interest in growing the company and may be the best person to oversee the organization as a whole. Another option is to promote from within the management ranks. Jenny knows of two location managers that have great management skill. One of these managers would be a good choice for promotion to CEO because of their skill and their existing knowledge and experience within the company. That knowledge and experience is valuable in the CEO’s position because they have a clear view of the company and the goals. A third option may be to look outside the company for a CEO. Many CEO’s from other companies will have years of high-management experience and have proven track records as CEO’s. This may be a great alternative if the first two options do not work out.

3. Who within the company should make these decisions?

The decision of appointing a CEO to the company should fall to Jack and Jenny. They are the co-owners of the business; therefore, they currently have the ultimate authority in the company.
