Non-Surgical Squint Treatments
We all know what squint eyes are. To explain it scientifically, squint eyes or crossed eyes is an eye
disorder in which both the eyes are not aligned properly with each other. When someone is squint,
you notice that each eye of that person is looking in a different direction. This disorder is also known
as Strabismus or heterotropia. This defect is most commonly found in children but is also seen in
adults.
The eyes of the person who is squint are unable to focus on a single object together. This is because
there is no coordination between the counterpart muscles of the eyes resulting in the misalignment.
The alignment and the movement of each eye is controlled by six muscles, each of which acts along
with its counterpart muscle in other eye to keep both the eyes in same alignment and movement.
Squint eyes or strabismus can also give rise to “lazy eye,” as the brain will ignore the “bad eye” to
prevent double vision.
Causes Of Squint Eyes:
1. Accommodation and convergence anomalies.
2. Refractive errors.
3. Weakness in the nerves supplying the eye muscles.
4. The gross difference in the vision between 2 eyes due to any reason.
5. Patching or closing of one eye for a prolonged period.
6. Defect in the development of the nerves between retina and the brain.
7. Hereditary and genetic causes.
Symptoms:
The only symptom of this disorder is when you notice the misalignment of eyes. If at all you notice
misalignment of eye, schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist and get your eyes
examined. Some patients also complain about double vision apart from misalignment of eyes in this
state.
An ophthalmologist will examine and diagnose if it is a case of squint eyes. There will be some eye
tests to check the misalignment.
