Organizing

After reading the scenario above and pages 124–125 in Chapter 6 of your textbook under the section on authority, please respond to the following questions:

(Please number your responses 1–4 according to the four questions below)

1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow?

Creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers would alleviate Jack from assisting the location managers. Therefore, Jack can concentrate on other business matters, such as expanding the business.

2. Is promoting an existing manager the best place to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position?

Before considering an existing manager, Jack and Jenny must compose a job description and a job specification for the new position. Then Jack and Jenny need to consider the candidate; such as does the person have the expertise, experience, or personal qualities to fill the position (Bateman and Snell, 2009)? (p. 124) The main advantage of hiring an existing manager is that person is familiar with the company. If the existing manager cannot meet the requirements, Jack and Jenny can advertise the position in a local paper or a job placement service.

3. Who within the company should make these decisions?

With Jack being President and CEO and Jenny being Vice-President and CFO, they should make all the decisions of their business. In other words, Jack and Jenny maintain the top managerial level and are the strategic planners for Sandwich Blitz (Bateman and Snell, 2009). (p. 125)

. List the levels of authority (management) that Sandwich Blitz, Inc. would have if the new position is created.

There will be three levels of management, top level, middle layer, and lower level but there are four layers within the hierarchical chart.
