Challenges in Criminal Justice: Organized Crime and Domestic Terrorism

This paper will define organized crime; discuss the origins of organized crime in the United States, identified four motorcycle gangs considered to be organized crime by the federal and state governments. The paper will defined domestic terrorism, gave brief descriptions of terrorist and terror organizations, and describes terrorist activities in the United States.

Define Organized Crime

Organized crime is a compilation of two very distinct words resulting in an array of meanings, some of which relate to one another and often as not the two words are misrepresented as a single descriptive word place as a label on one organization or another, many times these organizations are unrelated but are categorized under one title as organized crime.

Organized and organization are descriptive words with a variety of meanings. An organization is a group of people with a similar purpose. The purpose differs from one organization to another, often unrelated to crime. An organization can be political, social, religious, or comprise of people with similar interests. Interests can be in a variety of forms, motorcycles, cars, airplanes, specific movies or the adoration of a particular celebrity. An organization can also be a group of associations, businesses, or fraternal groups.

The word organized suggests order. To organize is to coordinate the activities of a group; the group comprising individuals with a common goal or an organization with common goals and purpose. A labor union is an organization which organizes people into a single group with a common goal or common interest. A motorcycle club is an organization of people with a common...
