Democracy vs Dictatorship

1. INTRODUCTION

Countries all over the world are governed by some system of leadership or political system. These government systems affect countries in positive or negative ways. In this document, we look at two forms of government, namely democracy and dictatorship. We distinguish between the two and show why democracy is generally a preferred form of government.

Democracy and dictatorship exhibit differences in them in their methodology and concept. Firstly, what is democracy and what is dictatorship? These are two different types of rule over a country. A dictator is a person who has complete power over a country is called a dictator. Such a person enjoys absolute rule over a country or state. In a democracy, on the other hand, people have the choice to make laws. We can state, in other words, that democracy is taking decisions by discussing it with all. That means people have the say in what to do.

Democracy has generally been seen as the preferred form of government the world over as it favors the majority of citizens. It gives citizens authority in their hands to make decisions, choose their leaders and make laws. Many also view democracy as an attraction to foreign investment. A dictatorship, on the other hand seems to inhibit the wishes of the people. They cannot decide who to govern them and authority to make laws does not lie in the hands of the citizens. The political environment is seen to hostile to foreign investment as there are fears of an uncertain tomorrow in the eyes of the investor.

In this document, we will look at these and more factors of democracy in detail and clearly define what each form of government is, its elements, their differences and what makes one preferred over the other.
