As I was passing thru the grocery store I stumbled across an old classmate from high school. After reminiscing about good times I proceeded to ask what her current career was, without hesitation she answered, “Girl an intake worker for DCFS”. This Lady seems down to earth and comfortable with answering questions, so I used the opportunity to focus on the assignment.

The person that I chose to interview goes by the name of Amy Rock, she is an intake worker for The Department of Family Services in Torrance California. The type of agency that she works for is a place that provides multiple services for the youth. From foster care, adoptive care, and kids being removed and placed into new homes. According to Amy, “This place takes care of a lot of different things”.

“The main focus of my job is to make sure my paperwork is done right and on time” (A. Rock).

According to Department of children and family services in Utah, “when there is child at risk of abuse the intake workers must assess immediately to determine the “priority” of the child”. Imagining what the paperwork load would be like if she had clients coming in every hour of the work day, it would be difficult trying to complete everything in one day. I can understand why her main focus is to make sure her paper work is correct. On a busy day she is unable to put all her focus on one particular client. If her paperwork is accurate she can ensure that her client will get the proper help based on the intake.

According to Amy, a typical day would be me walking back and forth to the copy machine, and making sure my co-workers got certain emails and mail. There are other days where she and some of her favorite co-workers sit in meetings discussing caseloads and going over paperwork (A. Rock). The population she mostly serves is the youth.
