A small world is still a distant dream

The world has definitely become a small place to be in at least figuratively. It takes less than a day to go around the world when it took eighty days for “Phileas Fogg” in the eighteenth century. Technology has improved so well that people half way across the world can communicate with one another as though they are present at the same physical place. Despite all these advances in technology and social networking we seem to have lost out on the “personal touch” that we once had. We send “interesting” forwards to all our friends and known associates add hundreds of people to our social networks but all this will never equal a face to face conversation. This technology has made us so lazy that we wish even our near dear ones on social networks. What used to be personal family affair is now being published on the public domain. We have tried to make our world smaller by bringing people closer via social media. But whether have we succeeded in that is still debatable. By being “social” we seem to be losing out our individuality. The happiness derived out of greeting someone personally seems to get out dated as our communications are now getting more a formality rather than what used to come from deep within our heart. I would say that we have been quite successful in making our world smaller but we seem to be drifting apart creating a big vacuum amongst us.
