Dr. W. Edwards Deming’s Influence On Management Principles Outline
I. Introduction
A. Dr. Deming’s theories and successes transformed business principles around the world.
B. I’ve been working in aerospace quality for about 10 years and I’ve been taught some of Deming’s theories. This project let me explore who he was and what he was able to accomplish during his life.
C. (Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. Economic History, 1999) “William Edwards Deming (1900-1993) was largely responsible for introducing quality control to mass production. “ His biggest success was his influence on Japanese businesses after World War II.
D. Deming influenced the world and made an impact of my life.
II. I’m majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Program Management.
A. I intend on staying in the aerospace quality field and the emphasis in Program Management will help excel in future assignments.
B. I expect to complete my degree in two years.
C. To be successful in my career I’ll need to know some of Deming’s theories.
These theories include The System of Profound Knowledge, the PDSA Cycle, The Fourteen Point For The Transformation Of Management and The Seven Deadly Diseases which can be found at the Deming Institutes website site, https://www.deming.org/theman/theories and Deming’s book, “Out of the crisis”.
III. Deming’s leadership philosophies that are still being taught today.
A. Deming defined the philosophical principles that every leader in every organization must embody. The first point sums it, (Deming, 1982) “create constancy of purpose toward improvement of product and service, with the aim to become competitive and to stay in business, and to provide jobs.”
