Complexity of language

Human communicate with each other different ways of speaking and listening or through sign if they could not speak. In a computer, the concept is similar but more complicated, it makes use of the natural language process. Natural language comes a long way, it starts early as translation word for word and then analyzing of language grammars. (Kibble 2013)

A sentence could have different meaning the natural language and a computer needs to understand all of the meaning.

Do you have the time?

This question could confuse someone, it may means that someone need help or the time. Also, it could be when a man meets a women in her office and ask her Do you have the time? Asking this question might mean that the man is asking the lady for a date or the person needs to know the time.

Meaning.

The meaning of the question changes because the question is an open question, and it does not give the details of the time in this example. Someone can interprets the time differently;

Someone has a free time to help.

Someone is doing nothing.

Someone needs to know the time.

Someone forgets his/her watch.

Someone wants a conversation.

In the artificial intelligence process of the language uses different analysis to get better understanding of the language. Computer, in general, does not have the common sense of knowledge. The processing of language in the artificial intelligence is the natural language processing. The natural language processing processes the syntactic analysis, the semantic analysis, and the contextual analysis. Analyzing a sentence can be used in all three combinations, it does not have to be individual.(Dahake 2013-2014)

The syntactic analysis analyzes the grammatical structure, the semantic analysis analyzes the meaning of the sentence, and the contextual analysis analyzes the context of the phrase.
