1) Identify and discuss the challenges confronting the Times in the 21st Century.

In the 21st century, people tend to read news through the internet instead of buying the newspaper. Sulzberger had said that the distribution of news and information is going to shift to broadband, skill sets which are print, internet and video as that is what going to ensure the future of the news organization in future and today NYTimcs.com consistently ranks among the 10 most popular internet news sites.

As to say technology is being important part in human life. Thus, people are tending to read news through the internet rather than buying a newspaper. From the article said that Sulzberger faces an even bigger challenge whereby lie took charge of the Times in the mid-1990s. With the advance of technology, people can share and spread the news with one click and they may create any news they wanted to through the internet as well. Lie took charge of the Times because people could anyhow create and spread the fake news through the internet. Unlike newspaper which produced by reporter and journalist that they report only the real news and what people got from newspaper is also the truth.

Furthermore, a majority of the paper’s readership is viewing news through internet but the company still derives 90% of its revenues from newspapering. It could cost the company facing massive loss in the revenues as much news is provided free from the internet.
