In order to understand why communication skills are important to organizational success you need to first understand what is communication. Communication may be defined as transmitting, receiving, and processing information (Baack, 2012). With that being said communication comes in the form of writing, verbal, and even our body language sends off a form of communication. It is good for one in a managerial position to have good communication. The communication should be clear and concise for others to understand and follow. Also in an organization everyone should follow that same good communication. When an organization allows for communication to flow from the bottom to top you can see some great success within an organization. Most of the time an organization’s best ideas come from the personnel on the bottom and sometimes they are more aware of the everyday activities as well as the products. When there is good communication from the top to the bottom the employees are made aware of what expected of them and the goal the organization is trying to reach. When the employees are allowed to communicate upwards it puts them at ease knowing that the organization is willing to listen to them and that they are not just another employee that can be replaced by another person. This is why recruiters focus on good communication skills. They are also looking to pair up the right person to job. The higher one goes up the corporate ladder the more visible they are and the more have to communicate with the personnel in the organization. If you cannot communication well those around you will not be able to accomplish the tasks at hand because they will not understand or will misinterpret what is expected or needed.
