Case Title: Cessna |

Summary of the key point(s) or problem(s) presented in the case. This particular case discusses the best-selling plane of all time known as Cessna. This particular aircraft business was doing very well until an economic downturn almost put them out of business. The case continues to state that I am now the vice president and will be able to start rebuilding the company in a new area and with a new workforce. Whether people decide to buy these products 20 years from now depends solely on my successes or failures. |

Question #1: Still, you can’t help thinking that teams could pay off and that there might be ways for you to minimize the risk of failure. For example, because the plant will be in a new location, Independence, Kansas, you get to start with a brand new workforce. What kinds of people should you hire for teamwork? |

Answer to Question #1: (Include specific principles from the chapter) Bell and Smith, authors of Learning Team Skills state, The team approach brings together the specialized skills of many individuals to resolve problems, seize opportunities, and meet organizational goals, (Bell & Smith, p. 2).” I would personally hire individuals who work well with others and enjoy working with people. I would also look for qualities in these individuals such as experience working with team environments, experience in this particular field, and eagerness to work. For this particular company I would include several work teams. A work team is defined as, “A small number of people with complementary skills who hold themselves mutually accountable for pursuing a common purpose, achieving performance goals, and improving interdependent work processes, (Williams, p. 199).” |
