Abstract
This study focuses the influence of the media on an adolescent’s maturation, notably through the behavioral and psychological developments of the pubescent. The media’s existence within the lives of adolescents in the past few decades has greatly shaped a child’s state of mind, as well as affected both their sense of morality and societal values.
Children today use the media as a source of shared knowledge to retain information, to entertain themselves, and to use as form of communication. There are also exits various forms of media that adolescents use more than others, which can lead to a child to be limited by that amount of knowledge from only that source of information. This boundary of information can lead a child to have an erroneous perception of what they believe to be right and wrong, causing the adolescent to present this limitation through their behavior.
The media is designed to appeal to a certain audience and to provide them with information that correlates with their present knowledge; however there also occurs unintentional audiences that the media captures as well. Some of the contents within various forms media are not meant for children to view and are restricted. However, these prescribed restrictions are disregarded by many of the pubescent youths within society and as a result, are interpreted in a manner that is not intended for that media. This too can result in an adolescent behaving in a way not accepted by the rest of society.
