As an Indonesian, one of our greatest values that we hold is Bhineka Tunggal Ika--teamwork. Thus, it is no surprise that I prefer to work in a team rather than to work individually. While there are times when I feel that working alone is a better option, soon after I tend to think that working together is a more productive and alternative.

This is apparent in every single CAS project I have become a part of, for example: Philippine Camp. This camp was my first international project. Before this, I had nil idea of how difficult and complicated organizing an international camp could be. If it weren’t for the help of my teammates and the guidance from my teachers this camp wouldn’t have been successful--we wouldn’t be able to help the Ati tribe. This camp, the change for a better community that we made would be impossible without teamwork.

Making better a community in an international scale is not a quotidian action.

On the contrary, it is different and exciting. Organizing the Philippine camp have allowed me to experience a new adventure, obtain valuable life lessons and become more aware about issues that are of global importance (such as education). Perhaps, my experience during the Sukabumi camp has helped me understand that the scarcity of education is a universal issue that has not been thoroughly addressed. Witnessing how the Sukabumi children in TK Pelangi lack an essential need inspired me to volunteer as one of the leader for the Philippine camp. I since in this program I will help teach the ati kids, in a way I am developing my teaching skills.

Oh, I’ve never had the chance to lend a hand to people outside of Indonesia. Also, I’ve never had the chance to help such a large number of people, so in a sense this program will make me become more aware of international issues that are happening and actually engage in solving it.
