Garcine

Background

Acne is now a very common skin disorder especially in puberty and adolescence. The main cause of acne is the colonization of Propionibacterium acnes, an anaerobic gram-positive bacterium, following the hypersecretion of sebum. P. acnes produces numerous enzymes such as lipase, protease, hyaluronidase and stimulates the production of proinflammatory cytokine which contribute to the irritation and inflammation of surrounding tissue resulting in formation and spread of acnes.

Alpha-mangostin is one of xanthones compound found in mangosteen fruit. This secondary metabolite was extensively investigated for many years and the worldwide published studies indicated the consensus benefits of this valuable substance. Because of its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, and anti-microbial activity, alpha-mangostin was claimed to be the anti-acne agent from natural which had been confirmed by many in vitro tests, in vivo tests, and even clinical trials. However, there is one cumbersome point that limited the widely use of this lead substance; water insolubility. Therefore WellCap® technology is selected to cross this barrier, and improve the stability of the alpha-mangostin which resulted to WellCap® Garcine.
