Communication strategies
Communication is the key to being a great leader. The style you chose must be in line with your subordinates’ views. This requires the leader to be flexible and open to change. Technology continues to provide new forms of communication. Not excepting technology is not an option for good leadership communication. Employees do not need be micromanaged to experience successful and timely communication from there leaders. Depending on the manager’s rank, this could be daily, weekly or some other time period. The key is to be consistent and follow an agenda. No one should have time to waste on communications that have no point. I will discuss two communication methods that work well for me and should be easy to apply and enjoyed by manages and subordinates.
Face-to-face
Technology may challenge face-to-face communication, but it will never replace it. Face-to-face interactions develop workplace relationships and team cohesiveness. It can be a one on one or group participation. It allows the leader to become closer to the employees. The leader becomes someone the employ can relate to and feels comfortable approaching (Richman, 2015). The leader will learn what is important to the employee and how the employee would like to give back to the company. My employer uses the term ‘life and work balance’. Face-to-face communication helps the manager understand the importance on what is happening in the employee’s life outside of the work environment.
Off sites are effective venues for face-to-face communication. The leader must first learn what is a best fit for the majority of the employees. Selecting at least two venues for off sites provides variety for the employees. Themed off sites, such as mini golf works well if the employees are interested in sports. In choosing a theme,...
