Male Favoritism at Workplace - Who Really Cares?

I have been working as a card dealer since last year. Working in casino provided me excellent benefits and a very good working condition. I get good pay and tips and the most important my working schedule is accommodating with my schooling time. I work in a group of twenty-one dealers called Club21. There are a total of five guys and sixteen girls. Bryn was our group’s manager and the founder of the Club21. Our boss moved her to different division in the last summer due to the casino’s expansion. Ana then replaces Bryn’s manager sit. Ana comes from a strong belief in male preferences cultural country, China. She is showing clear favoritism toward her male employees. My life is getting harder ever since Ana replaced Bryn. I am being treated unfairly for being a woman. Ana changed everyone’s schedule; she also makes it hard for us girls to get time off, and finally the tension among workers rises under Ana’s management. My new manager’s favoritism strongly affects me and my work.

Ana changes my schedule to mid-shift. All of us had working in the schedule that our previous manager, Bryn, created throughout the year. However, in the first meeting, Ana started to change everyone’s schedule again. It messed up my entire present schedule when I was changed from night shift to mid-shift. The mid-shift starts from 2PMto 6AM. Even though, the working time does not conflict with my schooling time; however, I have to drive to school right after work without resting. I initially did not complaint about it to other people, because I think it is part of work’s pressure and responsibility. Soon I have found out that the men were asked their preferences in another meeting. The females were left out of that meeting and being scheduled whatever remained.

Under Ana’s favoritism, it is hard for me to take a personal time off. All dealers in Club21 used to have two hours of paid time off each week and can schedule our own days off or...
