Though I do not belong to any virtual world, I understand why people invest so much of their time and energy in these virtual realities and like anything else in our world there are pro's and con's to these digital universes. In the video 2008 METAVERSE TOUR - THE SOCIAL VITRUAL WORLD'S A STAGE, the video shows many virtual world formats that allow people from different socio-economic areas to interact (2008 METAVERSE TOUR - THE SOCIAL VIRTUAL WORLD'S A STAGE, 2013). This video was interesting because I had no idea there was so many people that interacted through virtual worlds. With over 300 million users throughout the world, the fear of someone being rejected based on physical appearance or the economic class they belong to is almost irrelevant (2008 METAVERSE TOUR - THE SOCIAL VIRTUAL WORLD'S A STAGE, 2013). There is a quote from Laurette Taylor in the video that reads "Personality is more important than beauty, but imagination is more important than both of them" (2008 METAVERSE TOUR - THE SOCIAL VIRTUAL WORLD'S A STAGE, 2013).
Even with Laurette Taylor passing away many years ago, her quote resonates even more today, especially with the virtual world, Second Life. In the Wonderland video, the many positives of Second Life that I spotted was that it allowed people to "reinvent themselves" and construct a life that was opposite to the life they led in the real world (Wonderland - virtual relationships, 2013). As in the instance of Kira and Nik, avatars in the Second Life virtual world, they were able to be who they wanted to be and in the case of the avatar Kira, she was thin and attractive which was the complete opposite of her creator Kristen (Wonderland - virtual relationships, 2013). In Second Life, Kira and Nik's virtual romance led to a real life romance and whether I agree with this or not, no one can deny people the chance to find happiness and that is what Second Life did for the creators of Kira and Nik, Kristen and Steve who not only wed...
