Yearn For Equality

Life in India for Muslim women has its hardships that are due to religion, injustice and male dominance in their society. Many Muslim women are voiceless due to the government and religious restrictions that are placed upon them. Their rights as women are being denied which is injustice but as of now they are making minimal progression for their rights. Muslim women can only do the minimum allowed of them. Many Muslim women of India are facing inequalities, yet to overcome these issues, women are actively involved in women’s rights movements taking place in India.

India is a country of religious democracy. The laws that are implemented merely reflect the religions of the country. The government of India is fairly strict on enforcing the laws, but it particularly affects Muslim women. The reason is due to the restrictions placed upon them and the control the government has over them. An education is not easily accessible for Muslim women because of social, economic and cultural reasons. The government does don’t devote a reasonable amount of time into developing the educations of Muslim women because they do not have enough freedom. It seems as though the government has made a checklist for the Muslim women to live by, but religion is still a key component too. The Muslim women do not want to oppose the laws but yearn the opportunity for freedom that they are supposed to have but do not. Due to the extremities of religion and politics in India, many Muslim women are bound to live their lives as the government implies.

Indian Muslim women are constraint due to political reasons but they have extremely high expectations for their life. According to Sharmila Mitra, of the Women’s History Review, in the male dominated society women are inferior to men due to “Lack of education and backwardness in social ideas” (page 1).
