Scenario of the Case Study for Team Development Process
The case I am going to discuss over here is when I was promoted to Development Manager for the product AutoPLANT (plant designing software) based on my past experience. There was restructuring done at that time and I have to develop the team for managing the AutoPLANT product for new development, existing maintenance and client support via TSG.
Team Development Process
The team members I got for AutoPLANT is from Islamabad, Russia and US, comprise of Development, Testing and Customization team. All the development people are reporting directly to me but for customization and testing; they have respective managers, i.e.
• Customization Group: 5 members in Islamabad office along with a Manager.
• Testing group: Manager in US and 5 members in Islamabad office.
• Development: 3 in Russia, 2 in US and 7 in Islamabad.
Team Forming
It’s a big team and directly managing all members is a tough task so in my initial presentation I delegate the Customization and testing activities to their respective Managers and communicate that my role will be a coordinator for these two groups. • What I will be doing?
• This is what I want to do and this is how we can do things better.
• I am unable to do this as certain component is not working and who is going to fix it?
• Whom should I consult if this issue occurs?
Steps Taken
Based on all this feedback I keep on generating a list of people interest and expertise and later in few weeks I have assigned ownerships of different areas (modules) to different developers based on their interest, experience and last job assignments.
List of all the teammate’s name, msn IDs, relevant expertise and current job assignment are passed to all the team so they can contact...
