Plot Summary

The book opens in Maine, New England, where nine-year-old Jared Grace, along with his twin brother, Simon, and his thirteen-year-old sister, Mallory, moves into an old ramshackle house called the Spiderwick Estate along with their mother, Helen. Helen and the children's father Richard have just divorced, and Helen and her children have moved from a small apartment in New York City. It is the childrens great-aunt Lucinda Spiderwick who let them live there.

When Jared is about to get his things from the car into the kitchen, he hears something moving inside the wall. He think it is a squirrel and don't think so much about it.

Later that night, when ther mother is at the Grocery store, Jared, Simon and Mallory decides to go and search for the Squirrel. When they break the wall open the kitchen, They find a strange animal nest, filled with Mallory’s fencing medals, a doll, head, dead cockroaches, and other things. Later, they find a dumbwaiter in the wall, Jared decides to get In the waiter and see where it’s going.The small elevator take him up to a secret library,...
