Julius Caesar Act 1-2

The conspirators, led by Brutus and Cassius, must make a decision. A decision that can decide their fate. The decision, to kill mark Antony. Brutus is telling them that if they kill him, they will look like murderers. Mark Antony isn’t a threat to Brutus because he has no power without Caesar. Cassius disagrees. He thinks they should kill him because he could rise up and be a threat the conspirators. Nobody knows what the outcome will be, but Brutus takes charge and stays on the safe side by saying not to kill him

Brutus doesn’t want to kill Mark Antony. He doesn’t to make the conspirators look like murderers. Brutus says, “Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius,/ To cut the head off and then hack the limbs,/ Like wrath in death and envy afterwards;/For Antony is but a limb of Caesar:(2.1.782-785). In this quote Brutus is telling Cassius that he doesn’t want to be seen as a murderer. If they kill Mark Antony, this will happen. If seen as murderers, Rome will want to have them punished as far being put to death. Brutus wants to do what is best for Rome. Killing Mark Antony would go against this.

Brutus is right in the quote stated above. They can’t kill Mark Antony. It could ruin them. Cassius is just blood thirsty. He doesn’t see the trouble lying ahead of them if they do kill Mark Antony. Brutus knows how to predict outcomes, while Cassius just wants blood. Rome needs to be saved from Caesar, but not from Mark Antony. As Brutus says, he is useless without Caesar.
