Legacy Assignment: One More Time

The issue at hand that is being presented is that children of alumni have an easier time getting into Cromwell than other applicants.

I find this thesis to be very significant because it is the dealings of a person’s education and potential future in whatever career he/she choices. Everyone knows it’s all about what school you graduated from when you’re looking for employment when fresh out of school. I find it unfair for regular applicants who worked just as hard as alumni applicants, but yet they’re passed up.

The claims in the short story are as following: A.) Legacy applicants are more likely to do well when they get to Cromwell. Legacy applicants know the old traditions and have stronger feeling of school pride. Legacy applicants feel committed to Cromwell because of their family connection. Regular applicants have higher retention rates. Legacy applicants are smart and deserve a greater chance of admission. Cromwell alumni are all pretty intelligent. B.) I find Hope statements to have no factual backing, she is speaking from a one sided point of view due to herself being a child of an alumni. C.) Hope provided no evidence of what she stated in her presentation, she only brought up one thing from one credible source, the Cromwell’s alumni magazine. D.) Hope presented statistics and numeric evidence to make a point on one aspect of her argument, which was that legacies are more likely to donate after graduation than normal gradates. E.) The speaker isn’t a credible source at all but for one claim, which is from the Cromwell Alumni magazine research study.
