Cursive writing was once the elevated form of handwriting. Throughout the years print became more common and people began to practice it more. In modern time, keyboarding has begun to take action. Many argue whether if cursive writing should be continued to be taught in elementary schools. Cursive writing still continues to have its importance because of future careers, important documents, and so that it does not become unfamiliar.

Future careers may require that one has some kind of knowledge of script writing. Although, in the article “Script writing no longer high priority in school” they mention that minutes spent teaching cursive writing have been reallocated in favor of more relevant skills like keyboarding (Leader, 3B). I believe that script writing is just as necessary as keyboarding. Even though, keyboarding has become more beneficial in society the knowledge of knowing how to write script is also convenient. In careers such as a doctor, lawyer, or even a principal it is important to know how to script write. They must know how to sign important documents so that they are not forged. Therefore it becomes beneficial to know how to write in script.

There many documents that require the use of cursive writing. If students are not taught how to write cursive, documents will not have essential value. Documents like lawsuits, court orders, traffic tickets, petitions, checks, titles, etc. all require the use of cursive writing. Even when you go to buy a house they require you to sign your name in script. If you are not familiar with cursive writing somebody else can easily forge you signature. This is why I am in contrast of the statement “Cursive doesn’t have the importance as it use to.” (Leader 3B). Over the centuries, we have lost the importance of many things. For example, culture is not passed down as it used to and it is being lost through generations. Cursive writing does not have to be lost when a kindergarten teacher can easily...
