One of the most important days of my life was the day I decided to enhance my nursing education at University of Phoenix. A new beginning had just taken place. I have been focusing on raising my children and maintaining a healthy marriage for the past 13 years. I want to set some personal and professional goals to accomplish, bringing some new challenges to my life.

For the past two years I have been working as a case manager at an acute care hospital in Hemet. Case management helps me view health care system in a different way. It helps me to understand that health care system works in a unit, a team. Case management helps me realize the importance of acquiring higher education. Almost every hospital required a Bachelor’s of

Science in Nursing (BSN) for case managers and staff registered nurses. I do not want to waste much more time from obtaining my short-term professional goal graduating with my BSN. I want higher education because I want to be more resourceful for my work, family, and my community. I agree with Thibault, Journal of Nursing Education:

Nursing education needs to be improved and transformed so that all nurses are capable of functioning at the highest level in our complex health care system and so that subsequent generations of nurses will be educated and trained.

There should be collaborative leadership among nurses, physicians, and other care professionals in redesigning health care in the United States. (“Interprofessional education: an essential strategy to accomplish the future of nursing goals,” 2011, para. 1)

My professional long-term goal is to obtain my Master’s of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN, FNP). During my nursing program in 1995, I knew I wanted to become a family Nurse Practitioner. I love to help people, people with no health care.
