REFLECTIVE THINKING ESSAY 1

1. How would your subordinates describe you as a leader? My subordinates will describe me as being one of the most committed, honest, fair and easy going person they have ever interacted with. I have also heard it through the grape vine (my peers) that my subordinate think highly of me, and that no matter what the situation they can come to me for guidance. So yes, I would like to think that I’m viewed among my subordinates as an effective leader. I have also had other subordinates come to me and asked if I can be there supervisor, because there supervisor is unapproachable and none receptive. But like I always tell them, you can’t pick your supervisor but you can still come to work and give a 100% no matter what and learn from his mistakes and know what not to do with your airman when your time comes.

2. How would your supervisor describe your followership? My supervisor would label me as calm under pressure, tackles every job head on and always gives a 100% while being receptive to others. He always said that a good leader is also a good follower, these are words that I live by. I’ve always maintained a positive attitude no matter what the task at hand was.

3. What leadership style do I use? Do I consider it to be effective? ‘Leading by example” is the leadership style that I use. And yes I have found it to be very effective. I will never ask an airmen do something that I would not do myself or feel uncomfortable doing. Depending on the situation I would either do it with them or explain the bigger picture/importance of what needs to be accomplished and 9-10 times there’s no complaining.

4. How would you describe yourself as a NCO? I would have to say Consistent. I’m the same way with all my subordinates as well as my peer’s subordinates.
