Executive Summary

1. Introduction

ACTION, a division of the Territory and Municipal Services Directorate, is a bus company operating public transport services in Canberra, Australia. It’s wholly owned and operated by ACT government. And the primary goal of ACTION is to delivery efficient and effective public transport service. In recent years, with the expansion of urbanization, ACTION faces both the opportunities and challenges in terms of delivering public transport service. For instance, with the increasing price of parking, oil and private cars, more and more people choose to take buses when they go out. However, increasing passengers also means higher needs and pressures on bus services. Although ACTION takes many measures to improve its bus services, those services still cannot meet the needs of passengers wholly. For instance, ACTION introduces a new ticketing system called MyWay and a real time passenger information system called NXTBUS to provide more efficient and convenient services to passengers.
