The case presents how MEMS a business unit of ADI was not successful in the beginning but vision of Mr. Stata not giving up MEMS for the short term loss changed revolutionary. With the right resources, vision and direction of Mr. Stata MEMS became a great success. Case presents how MEMS while losing money when ADI was profitable and with decision of Mr. Stata keeping MEMS a business unit alive made it possible the MEMS to survive the worst development phase using ADI resources and financial support.

The case also presents the relationship between the business unit and corporate office for business growth and use of available resource. Mr. Payne has been too optimistic in predicting the price of the new technology in the early stage of MEMS technology which made company took long to be profitable.
