I fully understand Fredrick's soul searching for answers and the first thought that he might have is to sue, however, I would advise not file suit at first because he did not protect himself from a legal standpoint. While it is immoral for his professors to use his idea, Fredrick failed to patent his idea to protect his intellectual property. I would advise him to speak with his professors in an attempt to gain understanding with them. They may allow him to enter into a partnership with them and help market that idea since they had successfully launched it. It would be costly for him to hire a lawyer and sue the professors and he might not get the reward that he desires. Another route that he could take would be to petition the United States Patent and Trademark office for a interference proceeding in hopes that they would deem him "first to invent."(Carnes,D) If he were to end up successful in this route, he would be granted a patent and his professors patents would be deemed invalid and they would owe him monetary compensation for the time they claimed and marketed his invention. He would have a good case with the USPATO if he were able to submit proof to them that he was the first to come up with the idea and he should have the research project notes and papers to back up his claim. If he were unsuccessful in either venture, I would advise him to move on and forgive those who wronged him. I would urge him to continue to place his faith in God and that the money that he lost is nothing when compared with what he could gain and that those who did him wrong will ultimately answer for it, The Bible states, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." (Romans 13:7, ESV)
