In a competitive society with a constant demand to stay current with relevant regulations, the health care industry is forced to keep up with delivery structures that are safe, effective, and desired by populations representing all health care needs. Although most health care organizations strive to serve the general public through optimal treatment and excellent service, there are differences in the way they approach their care structures. Outside components influencing those care structures included licensing and regulatory factors, changes in the economy, national trends affecting competition and pricing initiatives, and quality indicators of pricing at the local level. This paper will examine a for-profit and not-for-profit health care system in relation to the components mentioned, as a way of comparing how the two exist and compete while striving to offer the best care.
The Cleveland Clinic
The Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit health care system, founded in 1921, consisting of a specialized acute care center, 16 family health centers, and nine community hospitals, providing various health care services. Cleveland Clinic is most known for its integration of health care with research and education. According to the Cleveland Clinic, 2014, the vision of the organization is “to be the world’s leader in patient experience, clinical outcomes, research, and education” (The Founder’s Vision). The fundamental values of the organization consist of quality, innovation, integrity, teamwork, service, and compassion.
