VIDEO GAMING AS AN ADDICTION IN SOUTH KOREA

2. Video gaming fixation

People have been found to fixate over their video game life. People begin to think that everything else is not as satisfying as gaming (Chang, Lee, Kim, 2006). The gamer begins to feel like they have companionship while playing online games yet still allow them to be alone. This causes the person to start to like playing games more than being with people (Chang, Lee, Kim, 2006). It has grown a lot in South Korea that the government has made it possible to get a bachelors in e-sports. (FIND GOOD ENOUGH REFFERENCE)

3. Addiction

3.1. Classification of an addiction:

Addiction can be described in different ways but each one is common in certain ways. To be addicted to something a person craves is when they are not in contact with the substance or object they are addicted to (Volkow, 2014). Without it they go through withdrawal. They require it in their life to function and become dependent on the addiction . As time goes on they start to become resistant or do not have the same feeling when in contact with their addiction and they increase the amount that they are in contact to it. Eventually they begin to lose control over what they are doing and the thing they are addicted begins to control them because of the changes that occur in the brain (Nordqvist, 2009). This cause the person to start changing their life style to accommodate the addiction.

3.2. Symptoms of an addiction:

By increasing the amount of time they spend on their addiction the person pulls away from their social life and friends. The addict will start to disregard their responsibilities in their life as they can...
