Essentialism

1. Outline

a. Chapter 1 – The Essentialist

i. This chapter gives an introduction on how to be an essentialist. It discusses the way of an essentialist and a nonessentialist and how nonessentialism is everywhere in our lives, and why nonessentialism is everywhere. An essentialist believes in less but better, a nonessentialist believes that everything is important.

b. Chapter 2 – Choose

ii. Basically this chapter gives us details about how to make decisions in our personal life and our professional life. An essentialist believes they have the right to choose, while a nonessentialist forfeits their right to choose.

c. Chapter 3 – Discern

iii. This chapter tells us that we live in a world where almost everything is worthless and a very few things are exceptionally valuable. After reading this chapter I discovered that a essentialists thinks almost everything is nonessential and distinguishes the vital few from the trivial many. A nonessentialist thinks that everything is essential and views opportunities as basically equal.

d. Chapter 4 – Trade-Off

iv. A trade-off is when you look at two different business plans and decide to choose which will make the company better off afterwards, instead of deciding to do both and be a stagnant company.

e. Chapter 5 – Escape

v. This chapter informs us that sometimes when we are caught up in all of the craziness that we should take some time out of our day and just stop and think that way we can think effectively and be more creative when it comes to making business decision, and just think about life in general.

f. Chapter 6 – Look

vi. This just means that we just need to stop and look around for the big picture. We should try to filter for the fascinating which means we should only focus on the main points.
