“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”, I’ve lived this motto since my freshman year of high school. This was the motto that my varsity coach drilled into our team on a daily basis. I knew playing volleyball competitively looked a little bit tough but from what I’ve now experienced, I can definitely say, volleyball is tough! Every year starting in summer, my team and I were pushed to levels we didn’t even know were possible. Without our coach (who we thought was the actual devil at times) , we would of never made it past district champions, much less get the 6A State Title. After enduring nonstop running, lifting weights, doing repetitive drills and flipping tires like the football team, we earned our reward. What does this have to do with anything? Being pushed, learning discipline, having to work really hard to get something teaches you that things that are worth achieving are worth the effort. It also teaches you that hard work definitely has its rewards. Becoming a radiation therapist and ultimately a dosimetrist

.will not be based on just merely book smarts, but on how determined I am to get there. Volleyball has taught me that hard work does pay off. I know that I can succeed at anything I set my mind to even if the path will be long and sometimes extremely difficult. Having a state title under my belt is my biggest and proudest achievement. There is nothing I would change, not the crying because my coach is a jerk, puking because of all the wind sprints or even the time I spent not playing because of my shoulder injury. Keep your eye on the prize and work hard. If college is anything like working towards a state championship, I’m in.
