“We Crown Thee King”

1. Pramathanath stayed in England for three years and they treated him so kindly that he humiliated his own country by coming back dressed in European clothes.

2. What made Pramathanath turn against the British was when the police expelled him from the railway carriage. The purpose of the “big bonfire” was burning the European clothes because he no longer wanted to be associated with the Englishmen. Pramathanath had the help of children with making the bonfire.

3. The nature and purpose of the shrine is that it their worshiping area to pray to their Gods. The woman spends time embroidering English names with red silk onto the chadar.

4. Nabendu lies about “going to see a speech by Mr. Surendranath” because he still has a craving for “European favours.”

5. Nabendu’s relationship develops as the two come together in each others arms as his sister-in-law cooks up some food dishes. Later in that day, Nabendu would play a game of cards, but he would cheat like he usually does, but happens to lose. 6. What Nabendu has “laid out” is a fashionable resort for the Europeans. Nabendu and Nilratan were having a discussion and said that “they” wouldn’t publish Nabendu’s name in the newspapers, but things do spread “from mouth to mouth.” Nabendu thought his name wouldn’t suffer from being in the newspaper and signed away a thousand rupees. The first signed “X” thanked him for his donation and declared that an increase of strength the Congress had acquired. The second “One who knows” contradicted the first letter. Nabendu writes a contradiction to “One who knows,” but before sending it, Labanya and Nilratan read through it, and then revise it so it is “strong enough.”
