My decision is to implement extranet capabilities linking Ford to there Tier 1 suppliers.

The extranet will be built to be used in conjunction with the ANX. It will transfer Fords short term product requirements to the suppliers allowing Ford to hold minimal inventory.

Part 3 Immediate Issues

Ford needs to decide how the future of their supply chain will look. Will they adjust their current model to reflect that of new industries? Can new emerging technologies play a role in the Ford supply chain future? The automotive business was previously monopolized by the big 3(Ford, Chrysler, GM) old school way of thinking. With automotive corporations like Honda and Toyota entering the North American market, Ford must maintain a competitive edge. This “edge” will be achieved by improving quality, reducing cycle time and decreasing costs.

Part 4 Systemic Issues

Ford retail Locations: Previously in competition with each other for customer sales. Ford locations were independently owned so a dealership would be competing with not just the actual competition (GM, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota) but also nearby Ford Dealerships.

Ford Delivery Lead Time: From the customers order to the finished product ford lead time was averaging 45-65 days!

Part 5 Qualitative Analysis

Ford is second largest industrial corporation in the world. With operations in over 200 countries and vehicle sales in excess of 260 million they have positioned themselves as a globally recognized automotive brand, as well as a brand leader in Trucks.
