Identify the operations management problems that Dr. Barr is having at the clinic.

1. Creature Care Animal Clinic is experiencing a few operations management issues. The operation management problem that the doctor is having is planning, controlling, and organizing. Planning consists of knowing when to stay open late and when to close the business early. The scheduling issues are due to the demand for her services which is greater on Fridays than Wednesdays. Organizing applies to the inventory issues and delegating tasks to employees.

The schedule Dr. Barr set up worked well at the clinic where she was a resident. What are some of the reasons why it might not be working here?

2. The schedule isn’t set up based on the clinic’s busiest times. Dr. Barr doesn’t understand how her business operates. The doctor made the mistake of assuming that all offices or clinics are alike. These things can vary by location, client base, and the services that are offered. The prior clinic where her residency was done more than likely had a larger staff in place and more experience with scheduling its cliental. The current schedule does not work because the doctor has not looked at the current trends in her customer traffic.

Identify some of the reasons why the clinic is having inventory problems.

3. Because of the lack of technology usage Dr. Barr should implement an inventory management system to avoid unexpected situations and keep track of supplies. There is always miscommunication when there is more than one person handling inventory. We can only assume that the different people involved in inventory has different ideas as to what they feel the clinic is in need of. This can be in regard to quantity, brand, and product.
