Coding was never my dream job initially but I always had a place in my heart for the art and logic that it is. In my undergrad I was a mathematics major because I enjoyed math and the logical thought process it instilled. From this I felt that I gained an education which would be broad enough to aid me in whatever path I pursued in the future. As I journeyed into the working world I ended up in a computer science field for my first and current full time position. Now I work for CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield in the Data Informatics department as a SQL Programmer / Analyst. Throughout school I picked up various languages for fun such as HTML, CSS, Java, and C++. These languages never really grew on me because I did not use them as much. When I started working at CareFirst I learned SQL for my current position. Overall SQL was a simple but interesting language to learn but the analytical skills that were necessary to work in a data driven environment was very interesting to me. Data is a logic driven area because you need to not only make sure your programs make sense but the structure of the database is efficient and that your data is managed in an orderly fashion. The large need for data in today’s business world became rapidly apparent to me. This led me to look to the future and figure out where I could go in this field. In the future I want to try and work as a Data Warehouse Administrator or perhaps a high level Data Architect. These jobs require a lot of insight when it comes to managing data and making sure it is correct. While this might not be my final goal, it is currently what I am aiming for.

Currently you can find a programming job at just about any company you can think of. Every company has databases, websites, mobile applications and other platforms to maintain. The world of IT has spread to almost any industry and geographic area in the world in some form. Working at CareFirst is a great job but it is also just my first job....
