SA1 - Managerial Assumptions

1. What were your results? (.5 point)

The results of my test were that my optimal managerial style follows the “Theory Y” managerial assumptions.

2. Do you agree with the assessment? Why or why not? (1 point)

I agree with the assessment of my theory orientation because Theory X is the more traditional view management has applied in managing their workforce, while many organisations are now taking the more contemporary approach of theory Y. I feel that a stern boss can be viewed as taking the theory X approach, while a composed leader takes the theory Y approach. I believe there are a growing number of businesses that are being conducted more around Theory Y than old school Theory X. I believe I possess some skewed balance between both theories, it makes sense to me that I lean towards the Theory Y approach. I believe there is validity in both Theory X and Theory Y assumptions having a place in almost work environment, depending on the individual and circumstance, but it should be noted that a cheerful employee is a more productive one.

3. How might the information provided change your behavior or what insight did the information give you? (1 point)

Management style is heavily altered by knowledge and assumptions about what acts as a catalyst regarding how to motivate employees or members of your team: This exercise showed me that management is tied to these emotions, or predisposed beliefs. Assuming that team members dislike work, will usually be responded to with a rigid and strict style of management; however if the assumption is that employees take pride in the quality of their work, a more engaged and connected style of management is practiced.
