1. Reading the about the forefront issue at Johnson Chemical International seem to give the impression that the company allowed a certain type of behaviors to gain a foothold in the workplace environment. However, employees dealt with it the best way they knew how, including leaving the company, evident in their turnover percentage. Based on the information provided Johnson Chemical International action in dealing with the company-wide email exhibiting acronyms with racist overtone opened the eyes of management. Although their actions point to the fact that they forced to act they only after became aware that the news media was on top of the issue. The possibility of negative public attention would be inevitable, and management wanted to have recourse. Therefore dealing with the email seemed to be more a reaction vs. a pro-action on the part of the management team to immediate action. In the business workplace, some things will cause prompt action and those that are delayed prompted due to letting things ride. It may be that Johnson Chemical allowed something to ride, hoping it will fix itself. However, the fix will be more costly that the ride (Ingram, n.d.).

The meeting with management to discuss the issue and their response letter to the employees was a much-needed reaction and for the time communicated to employees of an unacceptable behavior. However, it brought to the attention an issue that had been overlooked although they employed a much diverse group of people. When a company seems to focus more on trends and hiring and neglect whom they are hiring these type issue will appear in a corporation. For the email to get to this magnitude of someone biases being spread through the company, communication was lacking company values.
