Format (100 points total):

Part II: Short Answer (6 questions, 5 points each) 30 points
Part III: Longer Answer (2 questions, 15 points each) 30 points

Multiple choice
I didn’t put multiple-choice questions on the practice exam, but they will be similar to the ones you have been getting during our weekly quizzes. The questions are evenly distributed between the three chapters that were covered.
1. List and briefly describe the four phases for the breakdown of glucose into carbon dioxide and water.
2. What are the three phases of the Calvin cycle? Briefly describe what happens in each of the three phases. Note: Don’t draw or describe the whole cycle.
3. Briefly describe the five types of cell-to-cell signaling based on the distance between cells.
4. Make a flow diagram that describes what happens when estrogen enters a cell.
5. What is a second messenger? What are the two advantages of second messengers?
6. Briefly describe the three general stages of cell signaling.
7. Make a diagram that describes the functions of the electron transport chain and ATP synthase that are found in the mitochondrion. Label where in the mitochondrion the things are happening. (You should label the matrix and inner mitochondrial membrane.) You don’t need to know the names or the exact numbers of the components in the electron transport chain, but start with NADH and explain what the electron transport chain does. Your diagram should also explain how the functioning of the electron transport chain is important for the synthesis of ATP.
8. Make a diagram that describes how Photosystem II works. (Note: I’m not asking you to describe the...
