Create a Problem Statement

Kathy, The Founder, was the Vice President of marketing for a large defense contractor. She was fed up with her daily routine stressful work. Looking for other opportunities, she was able relieve her stress through gourmet cooking and she was passionate about the gourmet business. She decided to start a Kudlers Fine Foods shop. Her vision was clear, “Kudler Fine Foods will be the premiere gourmet grocery store for those savvy shoppers who are searching for the finest meats, produce, cheeses, and wine”. Kathy was able to follow her vision in a very short time and was very successful in her La Jolla shop. She wants to expand her business, but not having good business strategy and proper plan she has to face some management issues.

About the shops:

At La Jolla, the average house median price is just over $2 million and population was around 44,424. It is a upscale area, she was able to maintain finest organic ingredients, unbleached flour, no preservatives and the food is rotated from the shelves on an ongoing basis. When the items are in good conditions are donated to homeless shelter and food kitchens. She started her second shop without much research which is at Del Mar. At Del Mar the average house hold income is around $98,257 and the population was around 4,389. But she has the same business model like La Jolla, so it was not that much successful. She started another shop at Encinitas and the average house hold income was around $75,000 and the population was around 50,000.

The Debate:

In the classroom we were debating about the KFF business model, strategy, and their vision. In the beginning we were confused about the issues and problems. We realized that, when issue are not taken care of then they become problems. In KFF most of them are issues, so we narrowed down the issues. The issues are,

2) Not having good business strategy
