Overview of the Organization
The organization that I have selected for my final report is Jenkins Limited. Jenkins Limited is a multifaceted company located on a tiny island in the Caribbean called St Kitts. The company is involved in the service industry and provides the following services: Engineering, Project Management; Construction and Funeral Services. I have been working for Jenkins Limited for approximately 15 years and hold the position of Operations Manager. As the Operations Manager my duties include the day-to-day running of the business, meeting with clients, consulting on new hires, managing the supplies needs of various departments, payroll, deposits etc.
Recently, we have been experiencing an increased number of customer complaints and I believe this is due in part by lack of direct supervision and low staff morale. This is exhibited through poor customer service, low productivity and problems keeping employees.
From conversations with different members of staff, I have realized that the staff is suffering from low morale and need to be motivated or at least need to reconnect with why they are a part of the team. This is compounded by the fact that the company has not done any salary increases for many years and there are no job appraisals to determine whether or not employees have improved academically and therefore their wages should increase to fall in line with such changes. The company does not have any fringe benefits and is seen as an undesirable place to work as there are no benefits outside your salary.
Preliminary Problem Statement
Members of staff seem unmotivated and dissatisfied and this is evidenced in their unwillingness to go the extra mile, work past standard hours or even in their lack-luster attitude towards completing assigned tasks.
I will examine areas in which staff morale can be improved and create benchmarks to measure whether suggested solutions have affected staff...
