What is the purpose of higher education?

When I was a teenager in high school, my mother often told me she wanted me to go to college, but I didn’t have the confidence to pursue college at that time. First what field of studies do I want to go for? I wasn’t sure. Second was I able of keeping good grades? Many years later after losing my job, I had a talk with my mom, to discuss my future. She brought up the idea of going back to school and I thought it was a great idea. For me going back to school I will get a better job, make more money, and become more responsible and productive citizen.

There are many positive reasons for pursing a college degree. An education does benefit everyone, of all racial and ethnic groups as well as both men and women do benefit from going to college. Most employers that hire college students will pay the student more money, than someone who just has a high school diploma. Having a college degree does come with great advantages for example; they receive better health coverage than most. . (Baum& Ma, 2007).

The average pay for college graduates is much greater than a high school graduate. An associate degree makes about $31,500 a year. While a high school graduate is earning about $24,900 a year. A college student is expected to make more earnings through their lifetime, according to the Census Bureau in 2007. That in a lifetime a high school graduate is at a rate of 1.00, were as an associate degree is at a rate of 1.28 percent. So going to college does pay off. (Baum& Ma, 2007).

It's all about the Benjamin. College graduates make more money in a lifetime than those with a high school diploma. A higher earning is more motivation for staying in school. It pays off when you spend money on college now. And it does pay off in the long run. Going to college teaches you the fundamentals in life.
