Muscle Reading

The muscle reading technique was definitely made reading more effective. I was more relaxed and prepared for the information I was about to install in my brain. It helped me to actually be in what I was reading so that I could understand the meaning of the article. Often times when I read, the information usually flies out my head and when I’m done reading I can’t recall what I have read, but with muscle reading it’s a different feeling. I became focused to where nothing around me distracted me, not even a pencil drop.

The biggest challenges were adjusting to a different reading habit and being in a quiet environment. It took me a minute to grasp the technique, but when I got comfortable with it, it worked. It’s hard to actually be in a quiet setting because I have a two year old son who is very active. To address these challenges I will make sure that I take advantage of the time that I have when he is not around to practice this technique. While doing the muscle reading exercise I learned that my focus is hard to maintain when I’m reading. It’s hard for me to actually stay tuned in.

The article that I read was about how sleep may be the critical for weight loss and health (Minton, 2009). I learned that sleep is very important when it comes to your health because it plays a factor in people lives that are obese. I personally think sleep is important because all your organs need rest to function especially your brain. When I start to encounter headaches, I know that is my cue to get some rest. It’s hard for me to think if I haven’t fully rested my brain. I look at the brain like a battery that needs to be charged up every so often.

Muscle reading is a great technique to use but it only works if you’re focused.
