Company Q – Social Responsibilities

Company Q has exceedingly failed their social responsibility to the community they are located. Instead of evaluating why they were losing money in high-crime- rate areas, and what products they could have introduced to help serve that part of the community, they continued on with their previous business model and refused to negate from it. They have also not listened to their consumer, by waiting so long to offer organic products in their stores in a wider variety, and a timely manner. And by refusing to offer day old produce to the local food bank, they chose to believe that their lost revenues were more important than being pro-active in the community by helping to feed the poor.

Instead of closing stores in future crime ridden areas, Company Q should find a way to protect their investment in their stores by making security for their customers and their employees a priority. This may cost money at first, however, when consumers feel comfortable to come into their store with security present, they feel more at ease and safe, and more likely to return for future business. It would also help to listen to their consumers, and find out what products are in higher need in that area, so that they can offer a wider product line, to appeal to those who live in the higher crime areas.

Listen to your consumer, do not wait years before offering products they have requested. After years of being asked, they started to offer a very limited amount of health conscious products. Company Q should expand their health conscious and organic offerings to their consumers, they have waited long enough to receive those products. Ask consumers what specific items they would like to see carried in this section of the store, and appease the demand. This will help the customer consume more product, allowing for higher profitability.
