Genetically engineered self-Identity
Introduction
The purpose of this literature review is to explore the different aspects of genetic engineering process and their application in our environment. More specifically focusing on the subjects of its application and its effects on human beings. I also study how human enhancement requires a rethinking of the aims of medical science. The study started as therapeutic like restoring impaired human functions, but now is moving towards enhancement beyond mere health.
My review will also discuss how genetic variation is important and how Genetic engineering technology (GET) is going to reduce it due to selective human nature. As studies of biology have shown us that differences within racial groups are more than variations between them which means even if everyone in the society can look like either Ken or Barbie, still their underlying genetic diversity will remain.
With all these advances going on, genetic engineering will also start developing human embryos in predictable and extensive ways. This will bring along another moral problem for the society. In this paper I also analyze the ways to address these important aspects of the problem as a matter of social justice. On one hand it threatens to make superhuman but on the other hand some theorists support the fact that this will bring some less fortunate due to their genetic disadvantage will be benefited.
Lastly I study how science will be “commodified” and made available for general use. The features like market economy, consumer culture and government will strongly determine the way in which these enhancements are made available to us and the way in which they will be used by us.
Concept A
1. Emerging Biotechnology and GET applications and processes
So far biotechnology is progressing in both plant and animal world in the same pace. Monoculture has been booming in recent years and due to the genetic relatedness, their planting,...
