A sensitive Christian should not hastily tackle apparent sin that has been committed by the counselee. As McMinn (2011) affirms, sin is an element of humankind emanating from the original Sin and finds its way to the core of a person’s existence thus directly influencing one’s affiliation with deity. The confrontation of sin does not only entail tackling given conduct but necessitates a deeper, considered, and gradual process, which needs the intervention of the Holy Spirit and conversion in the counselee’s life. Tackling sin is not a matter that ought to be taken superficially and builds up with time via a trusting, considerate, and friendly therapeutic association.

McMinn (2011) points out four ways of confronting sin, which include silence, direct censure, questioning, and pondering. I believe counselors most often disregard the use of silence approach while confronting sin despite the method being helpful and permitting the counselee to work out the sentiments of guiltiness and inquiries of culpability on their own. Counselors often feel uneasy with the silence and consider that they ought to say something to guide the conversation or assist the counselee along but in real sense; silence could be what the counselee requires.

In the case of Jean, there ought to be great care in confronting her sin since she has encountered wide-ranging intensities of maltreatment and psychological torture. Moreover, she faced condemnation from Christians that ought to express absolute love. The best approach in confronting Jean’s sin would be the silent method since she is aware of her mistakes and only needs to be given a chance to express herself without condemnation McMinn (2011).
